TeleContinuity Now Available to All Government Agencies Including State & Local Governments Under the GSA Disaster Recovery Purchasing Authority Program

TeleContinuity Now Available to All Government Agencies Including State & Local Governments Under the GSA Disaster Recovery

ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- TeleContinuity, Inc. announced today that states, counties and municipalities can now purchase TeleContinuity's telecommunication voice continuity solution directly from the Federal government under the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Disaster Recovery Purchasing Authority. "State and local governments can now use federal disaster relief and recovery contracts normally only available to federal agencies. Purchases must be for recovery from a major disaster, an act of terrorism, or to purchase these goods and services in advance of such a disaster to allow for rapid response and recovery," stated the GSA in describing the new program.

The expansion to allow other governmental authorities the ability to take advantage of GSA's product and services list has been authorized under Section 833 of the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2007. "GSA has created a great opportunity for all Emergency Managers, COOP Planners and Telecommunications departments to implement the only nationally available voice continuity and recovery platform in the marketplace today," said Roy Pinchot, CEO of TeleContinuity. "We anticipate that many local governments who were previously unable to procure the TeleContinuity solution due to restrictive procurement regulations in their organizations will now be able to protect the communications from telecom outages."

The GSA has announced the modification of TeleContinuity's GSA Schedule 70 Contract GS35F0875R to allow the use of its Federal Supply Schedule by state and local governments for the purchase of products and services to be used to facilitate recovery from major disasters, terrorism, or nuclear, biological, chemical, or radiological attacks.

TeleContinuity's GSA Schedule is now open to the States of the United States, counties, municipalities, cities, towns, townships, tribal governments, public authorities. GSA has stated that TeleContinuity is also now available to school districts, colleges, and other institutions of higher education, council of governments, regional or interstate government entities, including any local educational agency or institution of higher education, and including legislative and judicial departments.

The GSA Disaster Recovery Purchasing authority is limited to GSA Schedule contracts and does not include any other GSA programs.

For state and local governments to use federal disaster relief and recovery contracts normally only available to federal agencies, purchases must be for recovery from a major disaster as declared by the President under the Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, or an act of terrorism. However, GSA's rule allows state and local governments to purchase these goods and services in advance of such a disaster to allow for rapid response and recovery.
